Who cares how long? It’s romantic, you’re getting married, no brainer dude! Take the train for sure.
i do this trip regularly but i’m sensible & so i fly…only station in vegas ive heard of is church st…but thats a downtown casino (good range of beer tho) good luck
Check out the Amtrak website (www.amtrak.com), it has a list of all stations, and will help you to plan a route based on dates, times, length of trip, price… The site also has maps which show all of the different routes. Good luck, and congrats!
OK This is going to be a bit strange but it will work
If you take the normal routing NYP >LAS you would get
into LAS at about 4:00 AM after having doing a rather circuitous bus trip from Kingman AZ .In a car LAS to Kingman is a 90 minute drive
The problem is that if Amtrak is running late and you had to do a layover, Kingman Az would be at the bottom of your list of places to spend a day .
On the other hand spending a day in Flagstaff is fun
Plan B was to send you to Flagstaff -rent a car and then drive to LAS -Nice drive and you would beat the train by 4 hours or so and have a car.The problem was that all the car rental places were closed by the time that the train arrived.
Plan C is NYP to GJT -Grand Junction CO
Take a cab the 6 miles to the airport , rent a car and do a fast 500 mile drive into Las Vegas
If you’re not used to driving the West you don’t realize how much real estate you can cover in a really short period of time .That trip can actually be done in under 7 hours
The great thing about going to GJT is that after the train leaves Denver it climbs the Rockies and then follows the Colorado River all the way to GJT -really spectacular.
Plan D would be just take the train into LA -rent a car at the station and then drive to LAS
Good luck
I would recommend traveling on to Los Angeles, which has a nicer station than at Kingman, AZ. You could also rent a car there easier than in Kingman or Flagstaff.
If you do take the trip, get the Superliner Bedroom Suite. They take two bedrooms and remove the wall between them to create a large suite. You’ll appreciate the extra space (especially after a few days on the train). You’ll also each have your own bathroom and vanity.
Taking a trip by train is very romantic and enjoyable. My wife and I took the train across Canada for our honeymoon. It was fun meeting people throughout the trip. We liked having the large suite to retreat to for some alone time. The scenery was spectacular. It is a low-stress trip as everything is taken care of (making beds, meals, entertainment). You just have to sit back and look out a window.
